How to Get Involved as a EWB-USA Professional Member
Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of people in need? There are many ways a working professional can become involved with EWB-USA. The work that EWB-USA engages in requires many different skill sets; we accept and encourage all disciplines to participate in any or all of these four ways:
Join a Chapter
By joining an EWB-USA chapter in your area, you can:
- Design sustainable engineering projects and implement them in communities outside the U.S. Your work can help many of the world’s most impoverished people by providing them with clean water, sanitation, food, education and more
- Become a member of the chapter executive committee (President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer)
- Become a leader on a project – Project Lead, Cultural Lead, Education Lead and/or Health and Safety Officer.
- Develop or improve skills in: cross-cultural communication, participatory planning and global project management.
Not able to travel to a developing country?
EWB-USA provides other opportunities to make a difference. Chapters also need members skilled in training, mentorship, event planning and fundraising.
Become a Part of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)
Play an important role in EWB-USA projects and develop connections with new peers by becoming a member of our TAC. We meet once per month via a conference call and webinar to review three or more engineering designs submitted by EWB-USA student chapters. The TAC works with other professionals and a Project Manager from EWB-USA to provide technical feedback on designs and implementation preparation, a crucial factor in the sustainability of EWB-USA projects.
To join the TAC, please contact Projects to send your resume. A regional TAC Chair will contact you.
Join our Application Review Committee (ARC)
Help decide what projects EWB-USA chapters implement by becoming a member of ARC. ARC members review program applications from developing communities and non-governmental organization (NGOs) in need. After reviewing these applications, decisions are made as to whether the program is feasible and fits within the EWB-USA vision and mission.
Program applications are sent to ARC mentors via email for review of scope of work and sustainability. You will have one month to review applications, which are assigned based on member’s expertise and interest.
For more information on joining ARC, please contact Projects.
Become a Mentor for a Student chapter
Inspire the next generation of students with your skills and involvement and make a real difference in the lives of others – both in the U.S. and abroad. EWB-USA student chapters are growing rapidly and are in need of mentors to oversee project design, implementation and monitoring.
Travel to the project site and see first-hand what a difference your work, and the work of your students, makes in the lives of others.
If you are interested in mentoring a student chapter, please contact Projects to send your resume. We will be sure to find a suitable match for your skill set and experience.
