TAC INFORMATION

If you've been looking for a way to fit into EWB-USA, but do not want to travel, either being a TAC member or a Liaison might be a good way to participate. Ideally TAC members and Liaisons should have overseas experience or cultural experience. TAC members should also have a strong background in health, education, or engineering. 

1) TAC Members:
TAC stands for the Technical Advisory Committee, and its role is to review EWB-USA projects prior to the implementation of a chapter's design in a community.    The TAC are usually comprised of 15-20 professionals, including engineers of all backgrounds, health professionals and others with cultural knowledge to contribute.  Currently there are four TACs throughout the country.  The first one established was the Mountain Region TAC, followed by the West Coast TAC and now the East Coast and Great Lakes/South Central TACs are rolling.   To help people understand the TAC process, we will be holding web meetings where people can call in and login on line to learn more about the TAC.  To download a copy of the presentation, please click here.

2) Liaisons:
The Country Liaison is a volunteer who oversees some or all of the various EWB-USA chapter projects in a specific country.  Their responsibility is to provide communication between various chapters working in a specific country and also help to disseminate information to the EWB-USA TAC and Project Staff.  The liaison plays the role of a communicator, but is not responsible for technical accuracy or for leading or mentoring the project, just facilitating these solutions.  The liaison is a great way to get involved, become familiar with several projects in a country, and get to know the project members.

3) Application Review Committee:
The Application Review Committee (ARC) is a valuable asset to EWB-USA.  ARC members review new project applications submitted by chapters and communities to determine if they are appropriate for EWB-USA.  If the project is approved and it has a chapter, the chapter is then able to start working on the project as a recognized EWB-USA project.  If the project was submitted by a community, we call it an "open project", and post it on-line so that a chapter can adopt the project.
